James Zettel, Ph.D.

James Zettel was first exposed to forensic psychology during his internship at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. Under the tutelage of Jerry Brown, Ph.D., Dr. Zettel spent countless hours in the Harris County Jail evaluating inmates pleading insanity and incapacity.

Dr. Zettel assisted his early psychological mentors in completing psychological evaluations and family evaluations and became familiar with the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES), a measure of family functioning. He received family therapy training at the Houston Galveston Institute.

From there, Dr. Zettel pursued and completed postdoctoral certification courses at St. John's University. The postdoctoral forensic certification program provided him the opportunity to work with legal professionals in a courtroom setting and to learn from nationally and internationally renowned faculty in the forensic field. Dr. Zettel earned a postdoctoral certificate in forensic psychology, an advanced postdoctoral certificate in civil forensic psychology, and an advanced postdoctoral certificate in criminal forensic psychology.

During his time in graduate school at Texas Tech University, Dr. Zettel completed courses in neuropsychology and later trained with Ralph Reitan, Ph.D. Most of Dr. Zettel's neuropsychological work has been in areas of traumatic brain injury and mental capacity. Dr. Zettel is board certified in the school neuropsychology (ABSNP).
